Why is Gray Reed launching a new consulting business, especially at this time? The short answer is to provide business advice complementary to our legal services.

The long answer is, well, longer.

Gray Reed is first and foremost a business law firm. But by working closely with thousands of companies of all sizes over the years, we have uncovered gaps between the legal services we provide and the additional advisory services some of our clients needed.

We had been developing strategies to enhance and expand the way we serve businesses through a holistic, full-service approach. The pandemic gave us more time to reflect, sit down with our clients and refine that vision.

These listening sessions revealed that when many small- to medium-sized companies outgrow their business models, they’re unsure how to move forward. They’re at a crossroads without a guide. This fork in the road presents itself through various symptoms, including flat-lined profits, increasing costs, missed sales targets, unengaged customers, technology breakdowns, employee dissatisfaction, insufficient succession planning and a future that is otherwise clouded by a lack of strategy.

We created Gray Reed Advisory Services to be that guide. We help companies optimize business functions to maximize performance and drive growth.

Expanding the Gray Reed platform with business consulting allows us to offer a seamless advisory experience with the same commitment to customer service Gray Reed is known for: always doing what benefits our clients.

What We Do

We help companies rise to challenges and seize opportunities in four key areas: business strategy, operations, marketing and technology.

We start with a goal-setting session and a comprehensive audit of current strategies, procedures, processes, and organizational structure to identify strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities. This approach enables us to help clients set realistic, transformative targets and design the most effective roadmap to reach them.

Business Strategy Sustainable growth is only achieved with a sound strategy in place. Working together, we’ll analyze your organizational structure, refine your strategic plan based on your business goals, set key performance metrics and develop action plans.
Operations From improving processes to streamlining vendors to updating pricing structures, we help you build an effective operations model that reduces costs, eliminates inefficiencies and maximizes profitability.
Marketing & Communications As the voice of your business, let’s ensure your brand identity and marketing strategies are delivering the right messages to the right audience. And your marketing and sales teams are speaking the same language.
Digital & Technology Technology changes at warp speed. We help you keep pace by employing modern applications, tools and best practices to keep your business secure and running on all cylinders.

Who We Serve

We work with small- to medium-sized businesses that have reached a critical point in their growth. Typically, they lack the internal resources to solve their core problems and elevate their business to the next level. Sometimes, they also lack the significant financial capability necessary to hire one of the full-service global consultancies or accounting firms that primarily work with large organizations.  And sometimes, they’re unable to pinpoint their business issue(s). They know they have problems but can’t find the root causes.  If left unaddressed, these issues can lead to unmanageable costs and unacceptable risks or missed profit opportunities that can change the game for them.

Why Choose Us

Gray Reed Advisory gives companies unique access to the strategic advisory capabilities of large consultancies with the personal service and price point of a boutique firm.

We are a team of exceptional problem solvers, helping companies find clarity to save valuable time and money.  Through quantitative and qualitative analyses, we help clients understand where improvements are needed, what improvements to make and how to make them.

We are committed to delivering a high level of excellence by putting our clients first and providing services only in the areas where we have knowledge and expertise. The solutions we provide are not cookie-cutter. We leverage our broad experience in our core competencies to develop custom solutions based on what a client needs to accelerate growth and unlock the full potential of their business.

We’re excited to show you and your business how we’re different.

Cary Gray brings an extraordinary level of experience as a seasoned problem-solver to all of his roles.

As a lawyer, he takes a unique, holistic approach and brings an unwavering devotion to his clients’ goals. Whether he is handling the sensitive dynamics of fiduciary litigation involving a family-owned or closely held business, or quarterbacking a corruption probe involving a client’s operations in places as far flung as Germany, Singapore or China, the client’s objectives always come first. Cary’s navigation of complex commercial litigation has helped entrepreneurs, successful companies and their executives in real estate, manufacturing, franchising, hospitality, healthcare, transportation, banking and construction, among other industries.

Cary serves as the Independent Executor for two large estates, reflecting the degree of confidence and trust his clients have in him, and at the same time requiring him to understand the dynamics of businesses and their operations in ways that few lawyers do.

As managing partner of Gray Reed for more than 10 years, Cary’s partners have also recognized the unique set of skills he brings to the table. Cary concentrates on growing a modern and democratic partnership – one that puts the clients before anything else.  He describes the Gray Reed values as those of “an old-time law firm,” focusing on the smartest kind of productivity – the kind that promotes their clients’ interests. He is also intensely dedicated to developing and retaining the firm’s top talent, and to attracting other lawyers with complementary strengths and values to help serve the firm’s growing client base.

Cary has also had a one-of-a-kind experience serving as a Regent and chairing the Nominating, Governance and Regent Leadership Committee of the Baylor University Board of Regents. He has developed a deep understanding of the fiduciary obligations that directors have to organizations of any kind, as well as the balance between transparency of operations and confidentiality, enabling Cary to serve as an extraordinary resource on governance issues to public, private and non-profit boards.
